If you go into the backstreet, you can still see the old facades which look as if they are resisting to the trend. There's no colorful beauty, but it's thickly painted by time.

Like this singer-songwriter, the residents value a world that is different from the mainstream and they don't seem to pursue financial happiness.

It's nice that old values and culture remain inside the building as well. Again, the atmosphere is different from the current one.

People here have a subtle charm and they look like they came from the past. Is it an illusion because of the surroundings?

There's a market which is over 100 years old. It's one of America's oldest markets and it's still operating and contributing to the society. During the Gold rush time in the end of the 19th century, over 100,000 people crossed sea from Seattle. The stone pavements must have been mushed by these people. When I walk here, I feel like I'm hearing their excited and anxious commotions.

Inside the building on the backstreet, there're a variety of places such as galleries, restaurants, seafood shops, fruit shops, and flower shops. Also, there's my favorite French restaurant that I go many times every month and I never get tired the taste of their food.

The majority of French restaurants are modeled after rococo style that makes me hesitate to enter in a casual manner. This one, though, is a friendly country style restaurant where I can hang my coat and umbrella next to the entrance door.

Customers greet and smile even though they don't know each other. This is why I feel comfortable staying here.

The menu of their lunch is almost the same as the dinner, but it's nice that the amount is smaller (still it's enough to be full). The sunshine from the inlent is reflected by the antique furniture and it illuminates the entire room. Because of this light as well as the best food, the restaurant is a great place to relax.

The wide space and trees without leaves make the main street uninteresting..., no the young couple's happy faces light up the street and they make me happy, too.

If I smile to them, they smile back to me. Aftr all, the main street isn't bad, is it? He said, "I am No.1!" I don't know in what he is No.1, but it's best for him to live in that way.

Thank you. My small legs look weak, but they worked for me for 72 years without a major breakdown. They don't look proud but they are the heros working modestly.

Lying on the bed, I was thinking about my goals as a man of the year (which is unusual to me), I felt asleep before I knew it and my legs came into sight when I work up. How dare I forgot to than this lifetime fellow. Thank you so much and we'll continue to work together this year again!
