By looking at this photo I took in Tokyo about 2 months ago, I realized how wonderful to smile. It also reminded me of a passage in a book called "The Architecture of Happiness" written by French philosopher Alain, "We don't smile because we are happy. We are happy because we smile." Then, I came to want to see happy faces of the people in Seattle.

We have Thanksgiving Holidays in the end of fall. We invite family and close friends to celebrate harvest with a dinner of roasted turkey and seasonal food. Soon after that, the busy season comes. People start decorating for Christmas and buying presents. In this season, everyone is excited and smiling.

I said hello to these girls and pointed my camera with a finger to ask if I could take a picture of them, and they smiled and returned an "OK" signal. Thank you! I firmly caught their fresh and lively energy.

I can tell they must be getting along very well with each other because they smile without talking. How sweet it is to spend a day being together feeling comfortable and happy like this!

I believe the best way to show friendliness is to smile when our eyes meet each other it leaves a very warm echo in both hearts. In other words, smiling not only makes myself happy but also others happy.

This shop has delicious coffee and sweetened breads. Even though she doesn't talk much, her smile adds 1000 Watts of brightness and the coffee tastes many times better. To see this smile, I'm happy to come here tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. I'd get many refills until I get coffeeholic and get fat because of the sweets, just to see her smile. And, if she whispered, "how have you been?" close to my eyes, I can fall down and be brought in an ambulance.

They say, "Smiling is the best medicine." Wait, it's not smiling, but sake. Anyway, I hear smiling makes us healthier. It activates parasympathetic nerve, makes us feel more peaceful and relieved, improves immune system, and cures circulatory diseases. And, even an artificial smile dynamizes our body. He says, "Even though I don't have my house and job, I feel I'll be alright if I smile."

Even dogs are happy when the owner is smiling happily. The wind is a little chilly, but they're happy to go shopping with their master/mistress. They also like passing each other and the same goes for humans. When our family and friends smile, we feel happy, too.

There was an old woman who was smiling and cleaning her "yard" by picking up garbage. She said, "Even though my apartment is small, my family has been living for generations and this are is like my yard."

The yearend holiday season has started. People enjoy Christmas, New Year, and they smile. Whenever I see them smiling while holding big bags of Christmas presents, I naturally smile, too. Oh, I see. This smile is making me happy, then.
