I focused on the guardrail, which was about 20 meters from where I was standing. I knew this lens is f2, but to me, it was only ultra telephoto lenses that can defocus in this distance…

It’s just 25mm longer than the 50mm, but the world becomes completely different. Basically, you don’t know what you are photographing unless you stop down few f-stops.
Extremely thin focus. This lens will bite you if you use it like a 50mm.
If you use a rangefinder, you’ll gradually master the 50mm perspective. A 75mm lens stands confidently at the gate of the telephoto world, and it will surprise you with the ultra thin focus. This is common for all Leica aspherical lenses – there’s a great gap between focused and defocused area, so it would be more interesting to use it in the middle distance, rather than close distance. If I only shoot in the Focus distance wide open, I’ll be amazed by the shallow depth of focus… but, that’s it. Because this lens is very sharp, once I shoot in the middle distance, the subject stands out thanks to the sharpness and the big bokeh of a telephoto lens. This won’t happen with a lens lacking of sharpness wide open. This is a very interesting lens, indeed.
