The Shinkansen bullet train commenced operation along with Tokyo Olympic in 1964. Yurakucho Gado Shita (beneath girder) and Corridor street developed under the girder bridge of Shinkansen. This area is quiet during the daytime, but when the night comes, a variety of dining places opens. This time, our heaviest drinker, Akio Inden will guide you to his favorite places where you can drink alone or with many people. I recommend you to barhop in the order that I guide you this time: 1) a wee drop while filling stomach, 2) another drink in a different atmosphere, and 3) the last drink. Night is falling. Let's enjoy with a style. * What about cameras and photography?

My equipment: the LEICA M9 and several lenses. This area has so many things to photograph, so I strongly recommend you to go there with your camera.

 

The first place is "Tamotsu" where I have been frequenting for more than 20 years since I was an assistant. There's only one counter and this hasn't been changed since it started in 35 years ago.

On the counter, fresh ingredients are lined up orderly. Just by looking at them makes me want to drink more. The best way to dine in Tamotsu is to drink on an open-air seat which is made by a board on top of a beer case. This special seat is made when it becomes crowded. On this seat, I ordered a hoppy, salted liver, chicken meatloaf with a sauce, and deep-fried bean curd. Nothing has changed since I was an assistant and the brisk wind passing the Gado Shita makes me feel the approach of autumn.

When you go to Tamotsu, do try the Yakitori which is handmade before they open. The large meat is hard to resist! The ices on the bottom of the glass case prevents drying and maintains freshness of the meat. How thoughtful!

手前の細長いしそ入りがさっぱりとした味、奥の団子状になっているのがカリッとした食感と、つくねは好みに2種類より選べます。お皿にちょっとのっている豆板醤を焼き鳥につけて食べると、ピリッとした味が効いて癖になります。

店内のメニュー。生ビールの横のストロングサワーがお店の名物。ほとんど焼酎なのですっきりとした飲み心地。ただ飲み過ぎると大変なことに・・・。自信の無い方は、「ソフト」とオーダーすると普通のサワーが出てきます。

お客さんといつも穏やかに話している店主久保田さん。この場所で35年、時代の移り変わりを肌で感じていただけに、社会と経済に関する分析には鋭さがあります。

ひと手間かけた料理とシンプルなメニュー。そいつをいただきながら、風に吹かれて腑と心に染み入るお酒。文字通り「ほろ酔い」に浸りたい方はぜひ足を運んでみてください。
