Compact digitals perform better when they are shot a little under.
With a compact digital, you don't have to worry about the depth of focus and slower shutter speed.
Shot way under. Be active in exposure compensation when using a compact digital.
Cold river in the morning. I shot it right after I parked.
In front of the JR Osaka station. I grabbed the camera out of the bag to capture this contrast.
V-LUX 20 as a super-sub. A sweet choice.

You can set exposure manually.
You can use Aperture priority and Shutter speed priority AE modes. To compensate exposure, you need to go to the menu while looking at the back LCD, but it's pretty smooth.

2The 25-300mm is useful. The anti-shake mechanism works very well and helps you freeze the subject even if you're using the tele-end in the low light.
The corners are bit loose, so you want to step down a little. Shoot with confidence as the anti-shake mechanism will help you use slower shutter speed. There's always a situation where you want 300mm, and this compact camera covers it. How convenient!

GPS is fun!
It has a GPS, so you can record the place where you shoot. When you shoot with film/digital M cameras, you can shoot with this camera to record the place of shooting.

Take it with M cameras as a super-sub. Take it when you can't bring a larger camera.
Use it as a light meter for film M cameras. Or, use it for close-ups or pulling distant subjects. And, it has the bonus, GPS. The lens quality is far better than the average. You can also think of more advanced compact digitals with a lower-magnification zoom lens or a single focal lens, but I find a good point of compromise in this camera. The picture quality? As shown in the sample shots, it's surprisingly high for a compact digital. For the third and last photos, I did some retouching and converted into monochrome. As long as you're careful in exposure, it has a good latitude. This was the only camera I brought with my busy 2-day trip (Haneda - Fukuoka - Oita - Fukuoka - Osaka - Haneda). I was quite happy to be able to take photography even though I almost had no room for a camera. Are you looking for a nice compact digital? Get this one. (Text/Photo: K)
